When word leaked out that the Medford Lakes Education Foundation (MLEF) was hosting its second Annual Paddle Board Race and Family Fun Day, there was no shortage of community support. Families, local businesses, and civic organizations all rallied to support the “Stand Up For Schools” event, which was held on postcard perfect day recently. Lisa Blanchard, President of MLEF said, “Without the generosity and support of our community, crucial fund raising events such as this would never happen”. Medford Lakes School Superintendent, Anthony Dent, said that, pending final approval, the MLEF will be donating much needed technology equipment to the district: a document camera, 10 iPads for their Special Education Program, and 50 Chromebooks for students at the Neeta School.

We prototyped the design for about a year using the 3D printer at the middle school where my dad volunteers and progressed to Nova Labs a local non-profit in our community. After dozens of modifications, we applied for a patent and sold our first units in April 2015 at Carolina Cup, one of the nation’s largest Stand Up Paddle Board races in Wrightsville Beach, NC.
We Tried It: Paddle Polo
Modern Reston writer and photographer Charlotte Geary and her friends have no lacrosse experience. Charlotte shares her experience playing with Paddle Polo in words and photos. Read the full story here
None of the four of us had ever played lacrosse before, but all of us had prior paddleboarding experience. We strapped the attachments to our paddles, took the floating ball that came with the set, and did our damnedest to throw and catch it
Here’s what we thought:
Patch media featured an article about Paddle Polo and the sports unique development using community based resources like Langston Hughes Middle School and Nova Labs.

When we learned that Drew Testwuide, Captain of the Barbary Ghost had crafted some sticks and was organizing weekly SUP Lacrosse Games at 101 Surf Sports in San Rafeal, California we were charged up to see how his crew would like our Paddle Polo sticks.
We were blown away when Drew and his paddlers tested the sticks at McCovey Cove at AT&T Park at one of their Baseball by Boat outings! Better yet, the gang was captured on the Jumbotron as the World Series Champs, San Francisco Giants routed the San Diego Padres! The footage of them playing was even picked up on the television feed!
Drew provided us with great feedback on the sticks that included:
Another comment from Drew was regarding using traditional lacrosse heads instead of the Paddle Polo water-shedding heads. This is actually an easy modification - we will be posting a tutorial on how you can swap out your favorite head on the stick!
Again, a big thanks to Drew and crew for the feedback and exposure! When you are in the Bay Area of California make sure you check these guys out - looks like they are the epicenter of fun on the water in that region!
